MEET THE FOUNDER

Melissa Cameron Morrill started Pure Birth in 2008, after teaching a popular and more traditional natural childbirth class for over 5 years.  During the five years of teaching natural childbirth classes, Melissa also attended births as a doula, taught prenatal yoga classes, ran a local Natural Family Resource Center/Store and had 3 of her own natural birth experiences.  She has attended numerous trainings, conferences and workshops over the years, seeking resources wherever she could.  In 2008, after feeling frustrated with the organization she was certified to teach natural childbirth classes, she retired from the organization and started seeking out another “method” of childbirth classes that would be more in alignment with what she had come to understand about birth.

Melissa owns 2 other companies other than Pure Birth. She owns Natural Lullabies, Inc - a Tulsa based virtual birth center (opened in 2003) and a web design/graphic design company. She also enjoys freelance writing and spending time in nature. She recently moved to and co-created Isis Ranch. A vision that came after a divorce and long spiritual journey. Isis Ranch is her home and her private yoga studio that was born in the summer of 2011. She envisions this home one day becoming the seedling of a bigger community that values simple, inspired living.

Melissa has been attending and teaching yoga classes for the last 10 years and exploring mindfulness, meditation and conscious living in her personal life.  Bringing these into the birth classes  seemed like a natural progression.   Melissa searched around looking for a type of childbirth classes that encompassed these concepts but came up short. She decided to blaze a new trail and design a class on her own, using her experiences both personal and professional.

Shortly after starting these classes at Natural Lullabies in Tulsa, OK, Melissa began receiving emails from others around the country who had found her Pure Birth classes online and wondered if she could train them to teach the classes.  Melissa began creating a curriculum that could be shared with others and spent over 2 years developing the classes, philosophy and experiential concept of preparing for holistic and natural childbirth.  In Fall 2010, Melissa finally launched the Pure Birth Affiliate program to offer the curriculum and information to other birth professionals around the world.  She also flew to Bermuda in December 2010 and offered her first Pure Birth Empowerment Workshop to share the concepts with other birth professionals. This unique approach to birth as a transformational experience continues to blossom and will continue to do so as I change and as the world around us changes.  I am eternally grateful to the women and mothers who have come before us and to those who will continue long after we are gone.  A special thanks to those who have helped me on the journey of creating Pure Birth – Shela Tarwater, Celeste McNeal and many others!

A note from the Founder:

" I have been blessed to watch over 125 families give birth to their babies both in home and at hospitals in 3 states. Each birth has taught me something helping me to continue be amazed at birth and at the miracles that take place that move beyond science, beyond logic and beyond what's been thought was possible. During these thousands of hours of birth watching, I came to realize that there is a mystery about this process, which unfolds moment by moment. Truly learning to embrace the moment, stay present and watching it unfold has changed everything about how I birthed my babies and how I help others welcome their babies. Thank you for stopping by my website."
